Notes and Lessons:

1) If you decide to venture into a PMA, please treat them as the incredible gem they are. Carry a stove and use it! Fires leave scars unless done very carefully. And a previous PMA visitor had tried to burn plastic in their fire so we ended up having to pack that out for them.

2) I highly recommend biodegradable survey tape in neon orange. It was invaluable for marking a route most likely to be successful for the canoes. Make sure to remove the tape when done, but if one gets lost, being biodegradable is important.

3) You will get scratched, bitten, and bruised more than you imagine. Wear long sleeves and eye protection, carry plenty of water.

4) Have really good map and compass skills. A GPS is fine, but you need to be able to really relate to the contours of the land and take reality checks with a compass. We chose to do this without any GPS (though we had one available).

5) Plan for more time than you think you will need. If you don't need the extra time, fine, but you want to be able to really enjoy the experience.

6) Glad we brought some easy desserts for the time in PMA. We were too tired to cook anything other than dinner, but we were super hungry. Having bags of Minimus mini cookies was a big hit. And they traveled well.
