Friday, June 11, 2021 Today was our last full day of fishing and it turned out to be another windy day. We had planned to focus on Friday Bay, but whitecaps on the bay kept us closer to camp where we could fish around the shelter of islands and smaller bays. Since we fished closer to camp we did have the advantage of being able to enjoy a cooked lunch, in place of the summer sausage and dehydrated fruit that we had been taking in our canoes each day. Since I was the one carrying the food barrel on the portages I was clearly in favor of making sure that we consumed as much of our food as possible, so I whipped up a batch of cheesy garlic biscuits and then we sliced a pound of summer sausage which we then fried up to eat with the biscuits. It was definitely an upgrade for lunch that day.
Despite the windy conditions we ended up having pretty good luck fishing, while also enjoy our last day so deep in the BWCA. Since our plans were to paddle about halfway back to our entry point, our evening activities focused on getting gear organized and packing up whatever was not going to be needed in the morning. When I zipped up my tent that evening our camp was halfway packed and I said a quick prayer for calm water in the morning.
