Heart of Quetico

We started early and dug in. Our tandems moved along unimpeded as we slipped down the Eastern shore of Agnes. No wind meant that we were able to average close to 4 MPH for long stretches.
We stopped to view the Pictos about 1/2 the way down - took a couple of back channel routes to admire the soaring cliffs, and except for a momentary battery change break for the GPS, never stopped once to stretch our legs… which is of course the downside to big water.
By early afternoon we had reached a sandy beach and a lovely camping spot not far from Louisa Falls.
We set up camp, gathered beaver wood from the shoreline and sandy shallows and headed over to investigate Louisa Falls. I'd been here before, but the noisy falls, the bathing basin and the sheer beauty of this spot never fail to impress. All of us got pretty well cleaned up in the 30 minute dunking courtesy of the falls.
OK, it wasn't a hot shower with soap, but it was refreshing! Anyhow we felt better for the exercise.
The panoramic views up the lake were breathtaking.
Pete and I went out that evening trying to catch lakers… I rigged up my depth finder.. 140 foot deep waters come up pretty fast on Agnes… marked a few hanging around in the 80-90 foot depths, but darned if we could raise even a nibble. We enjoyed the evening cruising the depths and along the cliffs on the Eastern side though.
The next day was our pick-up day. The food pack was suitably empty, and the Meadows Portages beckoned.
