We broke camp and began to work our way South following the middle channel of the Agnes River via Bird Lake. Trolling my way down McVicar Bay, I snagged a Northern and a Walleye - both were released. We portaged over to Anubis and from there over to Bird where we broke for lunch. This island hosts a wonderful campsite - well worth marking for future reference. The skies were a vivid blue, puffy clouds added contrast and the birds - true to the lake's name - sang and flew about lunch site.

You could see the origins of the Bird Lake fire - the Eastern side is a vast sea of light green pines - old growth was on the other side.

I felt like I was on a Disney movie set.

Todays portages were easy in comparison to a few days back! Pretty routine stuff. The temps continued to be mild and the weather perfect. Kurt found the reflections of the clouds in the azure lakes to be picture worthy.

We finally arrived at the far Northern end of Agnes and paddled the narrow river channel down towards this sprawling endless lake. The waters were gin clear - I noticed what appeared to be a wonderful campsite so we pulled in - what a site! The panoramic views were only rivalled by the hammock friendly trees and a completely nifty 'bat-garage' for my Sundowner. (As I get older easy ingress and egress from my canoe is really important to me).

We set up an early camp - Pete and I went out to gather firewood and lay in our supply.

As evening approached, Logan and I grabbed the Sundowner and started fishing seriously - this looked like prime fishing real estate - islands, narrows, shallows, structure… it had it all.

Pete and Kurt headed out in the opposite direction.

All of us got stumped, save a few tiny Smallies. Not to be denied, Logan and I stepped up the pace, working new territory, casting and trolling the structure. Wasn't going to happen this lovely evening - the crystal clear waters refused to yield breakfast filets.

Logan and I found our way back thru the maze of islands helped, eventually, by the warm glow of the sentential candle Pete had lit and hung out on a branch.

My canoe went back into its 'bat cave' for the evening.

This end of Agnes is really lovely.
